We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

Conduct a federal investigation of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Created by J.S. on December 07, 2016

The statements made on December 6, 2016 by Sheriff Newell Norm, Louisiana's Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, concerning the killing of Joe McKnight are both unprofessional and alarming. Norm's position is one that must remain bipartisan in order to conduct the job in a factually and un-opinionated manner that upholds the law.
In order to help ensure the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office indeed serves its constituents ethically and equitably, I am proposing the US Justice Department conduct a federal investigation of this case.
The goals of this investigation are to:
1) confirm whether the current Manslaughter charge is appropriate and follows precedent; and
2) determine if the Office's elected officials are performing their duties in professional, ethical, unbiased manners.
