We urge the President to take a strong stance on the issue of banking sizes. We look to the example set by Iceland when their burst housing bubble prompted them to make massive arrests and break up "too big to fail" banks. So far, there economy hasn't suffered in the slightest- in fact the increased competition in the financial sector makes their recovery much quicker than ours.
Breaking up big banks and imposing tougher regulation is key to keeping a competitive banking system and preventing another financial melt down further down the line.
Banks can rely on government bailouts to cover risky lending- meaning they have no profit incentive to loan responsibly. Since the crash, big banks have gotten bigger, not smaller. This is wrong and must be fixed to prevent collapse later on.
