We, the people of the United States of America and the global community demand a retrial and re evaluation of the trial held to prosecute Melissa Alexander for firing warning shots in an attempt to scare away her abusive husband.
Melissa Alexander was sentenced to 20 years for firing a warning shot. She did not aim at her husband or injure anyone. She fired in self-defense. The controversial 'stand your ground' law in Florida did not help her, even though it has allowed for people who have actually shot to kill get off on simple probation previously (see Trayvon Martin case, same prosecutor).
Please reconsider the facts of this case. An abused individual who simply fired a gun in warning, without hurting or attempting to hurt anyone, should not be sentenced so harshly.
