Since March the United States Congress has said that it delay the confirmation of any Supreme Court nominee until after the election when it knew the "will of the people."
Given the deep partisan divide in our country and Secretary Clinton's popular vote victory, we call upon Congress to give the will of the people consideration and confirm moderate Merrick Garland as our ninth Supreme Court Justice. Such a move would be a major step in the direction of laying down partisan swords and working to truly unite what is becoming an increasingly antagonistic citizenry.
It is our hope that our leaders will remember the virtues of republicanism that inspired them and consider this petition, not in the context of a zero-sum contest, but with the future of our nation in mind.
