Congress members must not make pledges to lobbyists or third parties that supersede the responsibilities of their office

As Congress is currently paralyzed by the pledges some members have taken to lobbyists or other special interest third parties, we assert that taking pledges that would otherwise constrain a member of the US Congress from fulfilling their duties under the Constitution, is at a minimum irresponsible and disrespectful to the people of the United States and to the US Constitution, and should be illegal. We support a "One Pledge Law" or Constitutional Amendment, making such pledges an impeachable offense. The only pledge a member of Congress should make is to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
