Congressional pay should be determined by an unbiased standard. Instead of allowing congress to decide their own pay raises, which is guaranteed to be influenced by individual desires, an unbiased and fair system of compensation should be established to mitigate any self serving tendencies.
The CPI represents cost of living inflation and is the index most often used for wage escalation agreements.
Using the CPI to determine congressional pay raises would be a fair and unbiased method.
