Legislation should be passed stating that any salary increases for the Senate and House of Representatives should be voted on by the electorate in the general elections held in November.
In this way, the Congress would be rewarded on the merit of the work that they do during their term and not be able to continuously vote themselves large raises while their constituents suffer from the economy.
