We believe that that Congress has become an insular, privileged and self-perpetuating body that has created a gulf between how its members and the average American citizen lives, differentiating themselves from the populace in significant ways.
We believe that this outcome is the result of the ability to hold office for an unlimited time.
We do hereby petition government authorities to place term limits on both houses of Congress.
Limits should not exceed three terms for Senators totaling 18 years, and 9 terms for members of the House of Representatives totaling the same.
Candidates may run again for subsequent terms contingent upon the passage of one election cycle, or may immediately run for the legislative body of which they were not a previously a member.
