We wish to suggest that the US response to the use of chemical weapons in Syria be in two parts.
First, massive air dropped aid kits to help people survive such attacks. We do not use such weaponry, but should have surplus gear for dealing with it. Even if just gas masks, we will have saved lives, not ended them,
Second, a massive mobilization to aid and protect the refugee camps. In many such conflicts, the opposing sides strive to dehumanize their enemies, and then turn on the most vulnerable sector of the opposing group (Sabra, Rwanda, Darfur, etc.). A multinational defense and aid contingent - instead of a military response.
Best step for the US in this conflict, is to take the moral high ground, and hold it. Lose that, and we can not win.
