$1 billion in unwanted dollar coins sit in vaults in Texas and Maryland because Americans have never liked dollar coins...but...the coins must continue to be minted, according to an article in "The Bottom Line" magazine - Sept 2011, at least until 2016 because Congress passed a law to do so.
That's a lot of money just sitting around (with more to be added in the future) that could be used for education, senior citizens, children's health and welfare or certainly other worthwhile or urgent circumstances. We have seriously hungry folks here in this country that could benefit from this money...just gathering dust!
Stop minting these coins and put the ones not in circulation to some good use.
