Consider changing the GPA scale for higher-education institutes to account for grades to the tenths place (3.2, 3.3,etc)

Colleges have used a GPA system that regards a wide array of grades (80-89, for example) to fall into the same category (a score of 3.0 for the class). While colleges do average final class GPA's to come up with an overall GPA for each student, it is largely ignorant of the distribution of grades that fall between the categorization of each letter grade, in that an 80 and an 89 will yield the same GPA: 3.0 in either class. The accuracy of this in reflection to a collegiate's standing in entering a specified major that may require a 3.5 GPA, for example, can restrict a person seeking to further their education. The GPA scaling should be changed to account for the individual points between each letter grade, such that 81= 3.1, 85 = 3.5, etc. for a class score on a 5.0 scale before averaging.
