Many US citizens, living outside of the US are being harassed and being intimidated because they wish to give up their US citizenship for various reasons.
In most cases - it is not because they do not wish to be American - but it is that they see no reason to do the paperwork, spend US taxpayers money verifying the paperwork, and all for nothing as the US and Canada have had a tax treaty for decades and the majority of Americans living in Canada do not owe any money to the IRS.
So - and then - because I started the process of renouncing my US citizenship (Aug27) ... and at the date of my appointment the fee was $450... I was told to return on Oct 15 - and then today (Aug 29) the fee is now $2,350.
