There are other ways to prevent gun violence beyond bans and the status quo. This petition advocates for the creation of a gun injury insurance market that is compulsory, like car insurance. Insurance companies would pay compensation in the case of injury. People who own those guns would pay monthly or yearly premiums. The rates of insurance would then change depending on the number of incidents involving certain types of guns, thus increasing the cost of owning guns that are associated with or have a high potential of being associated with homicides.
Although this is not a final solution to this terrible problem, we believe that this is a good starting point. This insurance policy can work in tandem with mental health policies and other anti-crime policies.
