consider the legalization of drugs as a step toward curbing gun and violent crime

Created by W.P. on January 24, 2013

While horrific and rare mass shooting events shock the sensibilities of all Americans, statistics on violent crime clearly reveal that a large proportion of the violent crimes committed on our city streets, in our suburbs and small towns, and along our national borders are connected to the illicit drug trade. As we continue our national discussion on effective ways to curb gun violence, we should consider the effect of drug prohibition on fomenting gun violence, and consider the likelihood that a public health approach to the drug problem may have a significant impact in reducing the incidence of violent and gun crimes associated with the illicit trade of drugs.
