Many people have been convicted of minor crimes that have left them with records preventing them from obtaining employment.
Many of them have tried to turn their lives around only to have the record block the way. They are slowly being forced back into the lifestyle they are trying to escape.
We are asking for legislation to allow records for minor crimes to be sealed after a suitable time (10 years?) of no further offenses. The records and the seals themselves would be invisible to normal background searches.
Law enforcement would have access to the information.
The choice is ours, we can pay the cost of supporting these people at subsistence level and possible cost to the criminal system or we can give them the chance to walk on their own two feet. As taxpayers, we prefer the later
