Consider mandating paid leave for Illness, Family Care, & Childbirth under the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)

Created by A.R. on February 05, 2014

We the people of the United States feel we are not being adequately covered under the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act. The United States is one of just four countries (out of 173) that does not require employers to provide any paid annual leave for Illness, Family Care, or Childbirth. This Act currently requires employers of those qualified to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. Over fifty million Americans have taken leave through FMLA and around 78% of people who wanted to take leave under FMLA but did not, reported it was because the leave is unpaid and they could not afford to lose the income. Sweden mandates employers to provide parents with 480 paid days per child which can be shared between the parents and used any time before the kid turns eight. We seek to have better care.
