This petition primarily comes from the results from the Nov. 6 elections in PR, where 61% of the Puerto Rican people chose statehood as the preferred territorial status.
Our objective with this petition is to call President Obama's attention to this important issue which he promised to address on his recent visit to the island.
The Puerto Rican people want to become part of the union for both political and economic reasons, parting mainly from a crumbled dependent economy and a status considered by many to be colonial.
