Current news has made clear that US high-tech industry is being impacted significantly and negatively by our national security policy. Exports of many US-made tech products are in decline, news of government warnings or bans specifically targeting US products and companies is frequent, and our national competitiveness in many tech sectors has been severely impacted. Jobs are being lost in both existing companies and in potential entrepreneurial growth now impeded. This is likely to emerge as an important campaign issue in the near future.
Ethically speaking, and given that we're not formally in a war, does industry deserve some form of government compensation or assistance for the negative impact imposed on it by our national security policy, and if so what form should that take?
