Currently the US citizens under the age of 21 years do not have a provision to sponsor permanent residency for their legal immigrant parents.
In most cases, the parents have to leave the country upon the completion of their stipulated visa stay periods.
The minor citizens have no way but to leave the country with their parents. There is no guarantee of return until they are able to travel and live independently.
This often results in disparity in education, language, social and behavioral attributes that with other fellow US citizens and impacts their career and social wellbeing in the long run.
We urge the president to consider permanent residency or visa extensions for legal immigrant parents of minor US citizens as part of his comprehensive immigration reform.
