The present financial crisis is mainly due to unplanned expenditure of bailout money to Bear and stern, AIG, Banks and other financial agencies, which was in turn a requirement due to housing crisis where in large number of house owners defaulted and due to them sizable number of banks got in the closure.
All this was mainly due to the greed of the bankers and financial institutions that ended up gambling on the stock exchange and created a very dire state of financial mess in 2008. The DJI [Dow Jones index] plummeted to 6000 [2008] from 12000[2007].
AS PER WIKIPEDIA THE DAILY TURNOVER OF NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE WAS 150BILLION DOLLARS IN 2008. [Average daily trading value was approximately US$153 billion in 2008. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Stock_Exchange ]
