I thought of a way that Social Security can thrive for future generations and to help many Americans who want to be homeowners. HUD has helped many Americans to afford to have better housing, but cannot help everyone who needs assistance. The government should add an additional department to Social Security or an extension to HUD for Social Security that provides its recipients with a chance to be a homeowner. The way to do this is allow recipients to have a portion of their Social Security payments offset so they can have a home that they can truly afford. A portion of the offset funds or all of it could go back into the fund, which will help sustain the program for the future, as well as help families who normally can not get a traditional mortgage and live on a fixed income.
