Consumers need to be better protected from credit card fraud

Created by D.H. on January 07, 2013

According to The Fair Credit Billing Act (FCBA) and the Electronic Fund Transfer Act (EFTA), consumers are offered protection if their credit, ATM, or debit cards are lost or stolen. However, these protections only remdey an unfortunate circumstance AFTER a persons information has been compromised. It could take weeks or month for a consumer to recoupe their losses, but what isn't mentioned is how the consumers credit could be affected.

We need stricter penalties on thieves who steal credit card numbers and make more of an effort tracking down the those criminals. It is unacceptable that our gov't reimburses the consumer without going after the criminal. Every case of identity theft needs to be investigated to the max to ensure these criminals are brought to strict justice
