The AP has recently revealed that the waterways that will be used for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are unsafe for human use due to the high level of viruses contained within. Per the AP, "the test results found high counts of active and infectious human adenoviruses...These are viruses that are known to cause respiratory and digestive illnesses...but can also lead to more serious heart, brain and other diseases." The IOC doesn’t feel that it is obligated to test the waters for viruses, simply because the WHO’s official recommendation in such cases is to test for bacteria. We are putting our athletes at risk so the IOC can line their pockets. We urge you to take action by contacting the WHO, the IOC or tasking such agencies as the CDC to do the same.
