We the People petition the Obama Administration to put the Second Amendment in it's proper context and enforce appropriate bans on firearms. We would like the public to understand the following points :
1. The Second Amendment was a reference to state militia at the time, and was not referencing an individual right. State militia is the equivalent to the modern day National Guard.
2. Countless studies have proved the correlation between the availability of firearms and the occurrence of gun violence.
3. An armed public is not a safe public. If that were true, Somalia would be a model of liberty.
4. It is morally inconceivable to to do nothing in the wake of an unspeakable tragedy caused by yet another random act of gun violence, or to attempt to take the focus off of guns.
