Paul Ryan introduced a bill to curb government spending in December 2013. The bill cuts military retiree cost-of-living pay raises, which are commonly 1% each year. The cost-of-living pay raises are based upon the consumer price index (CPI) and when inflation exceeds the CPI, military retirees receive a small pay raise. This small pay raise is crucially needed to many retired military service members to pay for groceries, rent, mortgages, etc. Without these small pay raises, military retirees will not keep up with inflation. If Congress and the Senate can receive pay raises for serving their country, why not do the same for the men and women who put themselves in harms way fighting our country's battles?
