Fusion power has the potential to be a clean and safe energy source. The recently released FY 2013 Administration Budget proposal calls to shutdown the Alcator C-Mod tokamak, a fusion research reactor located on the MIT campus, one of only three major tokamaks in the US.
C-Mod continues to produce results which are unique and vital in developing a fusion power plant. In addition, it trains the next generation of US fusion scientists. If the funding cuts pass and Alcator C-Mod is shut down in September 2012, the effort to develop fusion energy will suffer both in the US and the world.
Continue funding the Alcator C-Mod tokamak. Make the domestic US fusion research program a priority in developing clean-energy sources of the future.
