In the previous weeks, the President has agreed with the US Postal Service for the possible elimination of one day of delivery. It would mean going from 6 days to 5 days and possibly saving millions. On the other hand, the spending of the Postal Service would no diminish, but increase. It could be possible to use whatever money saved by that action, forego on year of paying the retirement to give the thousands of employees that are close to retirement an opportunity to leave the job. At present, the majority of the Postal workforce are baby-boomers and they are either close or right there to retire. The closing and consolidation of small offices would take the needed thread of any cohesion in communities away. We are already in a time where there is no consideration of our fellow man.
