The Safe Start Program offers families enrolled with the Early Head Start program enhanced home visitation services. Through this program parents can receive one on one counseling services and training in evidence based practices focused on coping with trauma. It offers primary services to parents and addresses secondary trauma experienced by the child. Evidence has shown that in households where trauma has been addressed, children typically have better cognitive development.
