continue Tricare Prime benefits for retirees living farther than 50 miles from a military treatment facility.

Created by E.T. on March 14, 2013

Department of Defense is changing the Tricare Prime options for military retirees, effective 1 October 2013. Reverting to Tricare Standard would be expensive for most retirees living far from a military treatment facility. When enlisting in the military, the recruiter touted that by staying in the military and retiring, your medical would be taken care of for life. Over the years this has changed and now the expense is being dumped on the retirees. Many of the providers that accept Tricare Prime will not accept Tricare Standard. Patients that have had physicians for years will have to try to find someone that will accept Tricare Standard. This causes an undue hardship on many veterans.
