Mr. President, please ask Congress to appoint a commission to investigate why health insurance premiums are again rising at incredible rates.
The cheapest BCBS Tennessee individual (Marketplace and direct purchase) plan premium rose 42% between 2015 and 2016. In Illinois, they rose over 50%. Our senator states that 2017 rates in Tennessee will be increased another 40% +, but will not investigate the root cause(s).
This is unsustainable.
Many people have to pay full price for these plans; they do not qualify for a subsidy.
By root cause, we mean: are newly insured people sicker?...aging population?...government premium subsidy payments too slow?...insurance companies not doing real analysis of costs before setting rates, because they've always done that? Or something else?
