There are 3 countries that don't use the metric system, the US being one of them. Outside of woodshop from high-school, all education has been in metric. Metric is far more convenient in conversions and sheer usability. United States customary units is a one of a kind system that can be occasionally convenient because we are used to it. For all engineering and measurement purposes Metric is superior, It easily transfers to all other systems of measurements and even in the US is preferred by all those who need simple precise measurements.
