While manufacturing is at an all time low, the United States should convert to the metric system. Provide tax incentives for established domestic industry to convert and new domestic business to use exclusively, and federal funds to states for conversion costs.
This will enable United States businesses to compete and co-operate on the global market much more efficiently, increasing productivity and lowering overhead costs. It will provide natural incentives for foreign business to invest in American industry, and enable domestic business to export products much easier.
American citizens will be better educated and equipped to understand global issues by using the metric system in their every day lives, as it is used exclusively by all other countries worldwide.
