Convicted Felons Ineligible for Elected Office

I am trying to understand why any convicted felon is eligible to run for Political Office, in any capacity, local, state or federal. I would strongly support a bill that ends the eligibility of any convicted felon for any public elected position. In my eyes, and the eyes of many of my friends and associates, this is a bad idea from start to finish. While at one time I can say I greatly admired Mr. Ganim, once he fell to the wrong side of the law, he became nothing more than a liability, because I know I could never trust him with good faith or honesty. The same feelings are there for Mr. Rowland, once convicted, no longer trustworthy for Political Office. Please see if there is any support to put forward a bill to eliminate the possibility of any convicted felons to run for public office.
