I have been a small business owner for 27 years (Merry Maids franchisee) and I was scammed by a PEO who collected Workers'com premiums and did not remit them to the insurance carrier . As a result we did not have coverage and there was one injured employee and now I have to pay for her injuries which we can not afford to. The PEO head is in jail so obviosuly he is guilty and yet we are now forced to pay for the injuries . Which is so unfair since I am just a victim too and paid the required premiums and did my part. I can not afford to hire a lawyer so for the past 9 years I have been representing myself. The systems is so obviously flawed and unfair and everybody knows I was scammed (unfortunately !! all the lawyers say) and I may end up filing bankrupcy or closing the business.
