To whom it may concern,
This petition is in regards to being concerned about Correctional Officer safety. With a recent string of Officer deaths, the issue of safety is even more at hand. Incidents happen everyday, however they can be prevented.
With that said we would like to humbly request that the issues of staff reductions, pay and benefit cuts, hiring freezes as well as mandatory furlough days be addressed.
The number one asset to our Correctional Facilities are the officer and there are numerous ways to save and/or cut money without affecting a Correctional Officers safety. However, the current model is to cut funding directed at the Correctional Officer rather than the other avenues.
If this continues, more and more officers will either be hurt or killed.
