Correctly identify and categorize "Assault weapons"

Created by W.F. on November 12, 2014

"Assault weapons" is a term loosely used to describe any high-powered firearm. Most news organizations use this term when describing violence in regards to mass civilian casualties. To date there is no government recognized system in place to correctly identify "assault weapons." With a nationally recognized system in place, confusion over which firearms are deadliest will cease. The FBI states that in 2012, 12,765 people were murdered. Of those slain, 323 were killed with a rifle. Obviously what is presented to the general public is different than reality. If a national firearm identification system is used, the facts can be easily accessed by the public and correct action can be taken.
