The United States of America (plus territories) is one of the few places on Earth that still officially uses a system of measures that is not the Metric system even if most of the consumable products sold within the U.S.A. are labeled in both the US customary units and Metric units. At one point in time during the 19th century the US was going to be using primarily Metric units which are logical and easier to understand, for example: 1 centimeter is one-hundredth of a meter, 1 Kilogram is one thousand times bigger than a gram (all Metric units involve multiples of 10); 1 inch is one-twelfth of a foot, while 1 foot is one-third of a yard, 1 ounce is one-sixteenth of a pound, yet 1 pound is 0.0005 of a short ton (if these units made sense then they would be able to reduced easily)
