Crack down on texting while driving.

In 2010, distracted driving killed 3092 people, More than the number of those who died in 9/11. This is not acceptable. Driving is a privilege, not a right, and it is the responsibility of every motorist to operate his or her vehicle safely. Talking on the phone while driving has been shown to be as dangerous as driving drunk. Texting is far worse. Those who text and drive show complete disregard for not only their own safety but the safety of those around them, drivers pedestrians and cyclists. It must be made clear that such dangerous behavior WILL NOT BE TOLORATED.
We ask that texting while driving be made a class A misdemeanor. This would mean more then six months in prison but less than a year, and fines up to $100,000. We must implement harsh punishment to deter such recklessness.
