Creat a program to allow military service members, whether former or active duty, to stand guard in uniform at schools.

Created by J.M. on December 19, 2012

I propose a program to allow military service members to stand guard duty at schools around the country, where it is allowed and invited by the principal &/or school board. While an unarmed, uniform presence would be better deterrent than none at all, an armed presence would be better. American troops are trained in "shoot, don't shoot" scenarios, firing near/amongst civilians, room clearing techniques, and use of force limitations. These unique experiences would allow them to safely and effectively guard the schools, while not overburdening local law enforcement. Many troops own civilian weapons similar to their service rifles/pistols. A program could either allow use of these or use of military issued weapons. Many troops may even be willing to perform this duty for free. I would.
