...create a $0.99 coin and put it into circulation by 2014.

Created by R.J. on January 16, 2013

For decades, the people of the USA, and indeed the world, have walked into shops and retailers and have been met with price tags which are created to intentionally trick us into believing we are paying less than we thought we were - $9.99 sounds cheaper than $10.00, after all, but in reality makes no difference.

And every time we make a purchase of this kind, we pay with a crisp banknote, and are refunded the tiny sum of 1 cent. Most likely millions of these coins sit in the homes of US citizens and become completely useless, and most likely remain in such a condition until they drop out of circulation - contributing deficits to the economy which can build up over time.

No more. A $0.99 dollar coin would end the stream of 1 cent pieces and finally allows us to pay exactly.
