Create a 911 text line as an alternative for calling

Created by R.V. on February 22, 2014

I believe that a text line for 911 would benefit the public in a big way. The ability to text for help would make 911 assistance easier to access. My reasoning is that if a person is trouble, for example someone has entered your home and they are armed, calling 911 could and most likely would reveal your whereabouts to the potential dangerous trespasser a simple text including your full name and address would be much simpler and safer. Take another example. A child has been abducted, they most definitely will not have the chance to call anyone, but they might have the chance to send out a quick text and that could potentially save their life. Also, for those concerned with people messing with the 911 facility, numbers can be traced easily and a fine can be inflicted on the fake texter.
