Create an accountability act to hold politicians accountable for their promises while running for public office.

Created by T.M. on January 12, 2013

Enact reform to hold candidates accountable for false claims that are made in order to secure votes. This act would hold candidates accountable for their promises to the public for which they serve and should be complete with specific outlined punishments if found to be in violation of such act. It would be a simple as establishing an oath for each candidate when filing as a candidate for public office and authorizing attorney general to prosecute for perjury (or greater) for each verified act of either making impossible claims and promises, or the act of breaking a publicly stated political promise whether by neglect or with purpose. The wanton use of lies to secure votes should be considered fraud and not tolerated.
