The United States is experiencing the initial impact of climate change. The drought, record high temperatures and ongoing wild fires are the first signs of the problems the nation will face. We must prepare to meet the challenges of the future in order to save the American People. I propose the creation of an agency for Climate change preparedness. The purpose of the agency would be to coordinate the efforts of the various ecological regions of the country and to fund essential scientific research/ development. Essential areas are water conservation, fire prevention/control, development of drought resistant food and grasses (feed crops) as well as flood control in costal and other areas. Programs designed to slow climate change (clean energy etc.) should continue. We must be prepared.
