We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Create an amendment to make minimum wage apply to private prison labor.

Created by T.C. on August 09, 2016

The private prison lobby acts on a state and federal level. In these private prisons, prisoners essentially work a labor or manufacturing job as in a factory but for less than minimum wage. Because a corporation can employ this labor within these prisons for less than minimum wage, it gives incentive to lobby against wrongful incarceration or needlessly strict laws. If you make the federal minimum wage apply in prison, it takes away the incentive. Because the police can be racist, and the lobbyists try to push for less spending on public defenders, this disproportionately affects POC that can't afford a lawyer. The defense for racist policemen should not be tolerated, and businesses should not be able to outsource to prisons AND lobby for incarceration. Its the new slavery.
