The Boston Marathon Bombing was a tragedy, but it WAS preventable. There is little we can do about the past, but we CAN learn from it. We’ll stop attacks with resources that are found nearly everywhere, even in our own homes.
I’m talking about pet dogs.
Dogs have an acute sense of smell, far surpassing human capabilities. Our dogs can protect us, smelling what we cannot. Dogs have long been trained to detect bombs and explosive materials, but POLICE dog patrols are very expensive in regards to time, money and human resources. However, the number of PET dogs is staggering.
I petition that the government create a program to enable pet owners to train their dogs to detect bombs. Dogs will alert their owners, who in turn will alert the police. This can preemptively stop more tragedies.
