I propose that any company wishing to store personal information including, but not limited to; Social Security Number, bank account information, credit card information, credit score information, and any information tied to the client's name, be stored on encrypted servers.
With the recent upswing in large scale hacking activity personal data is at higher risk of exposure than ever. However through these attacks it has been discovered that some companies are storing personal user data unencrypted, making it much more vulnerable to theft. Data such as; names, addresses, SSNs, and income information, have all been recently stolen from unencrypted servers. Nearly 80 million Americans had their personal information stolen in one such attack, greatly increasing their risk for identity theft.
