Over the past decade the real dangers of concussions have become common knowledge. Professional sports and colleges have implicated concussion protocols in the past few years to help limit concussions and protect those with them. There is not, however, a true concussion protocol in most high schools. This is something that has to be put into place. One of the most dangerous effects of concussions is chronic traumatic encephalopathy. The degenerative disease has been found in the brain of many athletes, namely football players, who have committed suicide, including star linebacker Junior Seau, as well as a 21 year old college football player. Concussions are one of the most dangerous risks of playing contact sports and this issue has to be tackled at the youth and high school level.
