Create and implement a 1000% sales tax on the sale of all ammunition

The second amendment protects the rights of individuals in the United States to bear arms. After recent high profile shooting incidents there have been many calls to place restrictions on specific gun types (i.e. an assault weapons ban). However, the fear of any ban or restriction has created a run on guns and in turn flooded the US public with even more of these dangerous weapons. At this point, it would be next to impossible to rid our society of these assault type weapons let alone guns as a whole. Imposing a 1000% tax on ammunition purchases would preserve the public's right to bear arms, but would decrease the economic viability of the individuals ability to procure ammunition for these weapons. The revenues could then be used to pay down the deficit.
