This is something that both parties have to make sacrifices in order to accomplish. If a typical American family had spending habits like the United States government, then they would have to file for bankruptcy.
Both sides want to stand firm on their position with Democrats wanting to raise taxes and Republicans wanting to cut spending.
Our party system has become too polarized. Each side needs to see that both of these things must happen in order to get one step closer to a balanced budget.
Also just because the government may cut the yearly deficit by a few hundred billion dollars, we still will have a deficit and our great country will move deeper into debt each year.
