Dr. Maya Angelou died on May 28, 2014 at the age of 86. OVercoming many struggles, she went on to become a great teacher and writer who inspired many to continue despite adversities. She was a lifelong activist who used every part of her life to proclaim the value of human rights and civil liberties. Her poetry lifts us all up and brings us together as one family. An "Angelou" Day should be filled with activities based on the lessons she left behind in her writings. On this day we should all strive to be amazing and find ways to release the songs of many caged birds.
